A lawful way for sinners
  To get the peace and favour of God.

Behold Sinai and Calvary,

The great substance of all the shadows
  Facing divine wrath!
Yonder is the sword having awakened,
  The books of the law coming forward;
Yonder the gold of the redemption
  Having been purified in the fire!

Behold the tent of meeting,
  Behold the reconciliation in the blood,
Behold a refuge for killers,
  Behold for sick ones
      a gracious Physician;
Behold a place in the side of the Divinity
  For a sinner to make his nest,
And the pure righteousness of heaven

Sweet to remember the covenant

  Who took upon himself the nature of man:
By fulfilling the terms,

My sad soul, on remembering the battle,
